View Full Version : Common Keyword Research Mistake

When selecting keywords to use when optimizing
websites/pages for search engine ranking, a common
mistake is to select keyword terms with the highest
search volume.
What's commonly overlooked is which keywords
actually convert best to opt-ins, leads, or sales.
Ideally, it's best to strike a balance between the two: Give
priority to the highest traffic keywords that convert best for
a particular site, page, product, or offer.
With a large site it may be too consuming to do this with
all your pages. But at least consider it with your home page
and other high priority pages.

Wanted to add something...To know which keywords that convert best is to test and track your keywords. In that way you will know which keywords to target for..

Good point, mehmet77.
I'd add to that: If you're using Google Adwords tracking
conversions by keyword is very easy, just by putting the
conversion code they provide on your conversion/Thank
You page.
I find in talking with Adwords advertisers that many
know about this conversion tracking feature but don't
take the time to set it up.

I would also add to check your competition....if a keyword has 2000 per day but 2 million results I don't care how it converts you will spend time and money to compete.
I like using the ratio of number of searches and the number of search results when determining the keywords I want to target.
Ge me a keyword with 50 searches per day and only 50,000 search results and I'll build a hell of an opt in list.

For doing keyword research we have to done for minimum 50 keywords. Otherwise we can't get the best results. Coloring is main part of keyword research. Many of us done major mistake here only.
